In my purse:
1. A mini bottle of Scope left over from a saliva test I took at the doctor's as a step to finding out if I'm all set to have a baby.
2. A $25 American Express gift certificate still waiting to be spent. It's been there since Christmas.
3. A letter and coupon from my hairdresser annoncing her move to a ritzier, more expensive salon, where all the employees have hideous fake tans and overdone, dried out, processed hair. One has freckles, and mixed with her orange tan, they make her look diseased. I know this because my eyebrow girl works there. This will probably be in my purse until next Christmas.

in my Jeep:
1. Three library books which, I'm afraid, are probably overdue. One is Ellen Gilchrist's The Writing Life, which has been very enjoyable so far. I took it with me to my oil change on Saturday.
2. A lined notebook with notes from The Writing Life, which I filled when trying to get all the gems of knowledge down during my oil change. I didn't quite make it.
3. Newspaper spread in the very back from when I brought over the fertilizer spreader from my parents' house. I'll need it there for when I take it back, I'm sure. Reuse, recycle, and all that.
4. A note reminding me to take my lunch with me to work. I think it might have been from the day I forgot to take my lunch to work.
5. Maybe a fry or two under the seat. A vehicle doesn't really belong to you until there is a fry or two under the seat.

Babysitting an Armadillo

This is CJ the baby screaming hairy armadillo. He and his sister have spent a couple nights under the careful watch of my brother, K, who has had the fun privilege of babysitting the little critters as part of his job at the local zoo.

After the babies' mother rejected them, they fell under the care of the zoo staff who take turns taking them home in their incubator, feeding them formula, and cleaning them when they make poopy.

These little ones, along with all the other creatures at the zoo, are lucky they have K, whose love of animals knows no bounds. He is a veterinary technician, and his gentle spirit and his sixth sense with animals make him perfect for the job.

It has always been clear that K has a gift. Anytime we wanted a pet and went to pick one out (and we had many, so this was often!), whether it was a hamster, a parakeet, a kitten, or a puppy, we would let K's sixth sense guide our decision. He has a magical talent for picking out the most special animal in the bunch - the one with the most personality, the most loving one . . . the best one for our family. He chose Jake, the parakeet that absolutely loved to boogie down to the soundtrack to The Little Mermaid. He chose to adopt Futz, who was abandoned with his siblings, and whose personality fills a room almost as much as Tommy's, a Lhasa Apso who K also picked out from a litter. Whenever we let K choose, the pet becomes the perfect addition to our family.

K's heart is bigger than anyone's I know. All our animals adore him. I've never seen an animal that didn't like him, in fact. Just another of the many reasons to love my brother!

Busy Bridal Weekend

Spring is a great time to be a bride-to-be!

Congratulations again to my dear friend P, who came into town last week for a whirlwind bridal weekend. We shopped for centerpieces, confabbed about favors, went for her first gown fitting, enjoyed a couple hometown institutions, and spent a fun and relaxing evening with friends at a nearby winery – all in one day! Then, her lovely bridal shower was on Saturday. P, I hope you had at least as much fun as I did!

Princesses Like Cookies

Many people have collections of Disney movies and other animated favorites stashed away in their cabinets for their kids or grandkids to watch. I have all the Disney animated classes ever made – alas, some are still on VHS as I wait patiently for them to appear on DVD – for ME to watch. And every now and then, I’ll get one out and enjoy it all over again.

It is rare that anyone actually wants to watch one with me, though Steve, bless him, has watched a few with me, and he even dug one out to watch on his own once. It was Atlantis, and I’m slowly turning him; he can quote parts of the movie, and often does.

So, I was thrilled when our niece came over back on March 18th to watch a Disney movie with Aunt Kim, an event that I’m sure will be repeated, as much as we both enjoyed it! She chose Sleeping Beauty (it’s all about the princesses right now, after all), and she sat rapt on the couch next to George Cat, loving every minute. I had to skip through some scary parts (ok, so is it strange that I am 32 and not a mom, yet I know where all the scary parts in most of the movies are?).

We also baked cookies and had a birthday party for George! It was great fun!

Twisted Fun

A friend showed me this e-card today, and I almost suffocated I laughed so hard. Maybe you have to have a twisted sense of humor like mine to fully appreciate it, but man, I think it's the greatest thing since the turkey singing "I Will Survive."

Irrelevance Theater Presents . . . Yahoo Mail

Every time I go into Yahoo Mail to sign into my account, I notice how the pictures never match the spirit of the text in the ads.

This is annoying.

Especially since most of the images are ugly.

One, for example, has this hideously ugly old man on a boat, and that was once matched up with "Quick! Find e-mail from an old flame!" Now, if this guy was my old flame, why on earth would I want to find his email!?

You'd think with such a large file of stock images, they could spend at least a few minutes matching up the pictures with the words.

Makes me want to switch to Google.

I'm Back!

Well, I'm finally back. An apology to my faithful readers, but this wasn't all my fault! For you non-blogspoters out there, for some reason, when we blogspotters were posting the last week or so, our posts showed up in the archives rather than the current posts. Of course, I couldn't post a note to say "click on the March 2006 archives!" because THAT would go into the archives as well! Humph! Even now, I don't thiink this will post until tomorrow. And tomorrow's post will appear on Wednesday . . . and so on. Grrrr.

At any rate, stay tuned! I have a lot of catching up to do!
